Night 2 at UIC- sp87
Lot of love for night 1 of this run, but I think the second and third shows are better, notwithstanding how good the first looks on paper.
Tight Shakedown Street barrels down the door to night 2. No extended jam, but it's solid and fired up. Short and sweet first set. Nothing spectacular, but well-played and the band sounds in-sync. Immediately following Don't Ease set closer, Jerry, in what seems rare and peculiar to me, announces the set break- rather than Bobby. I'm telling you, he was on the mend and in good spirits.
Excellent second set. Pumped up crowd for the Iko opener. Phil dropping bombs from the get. Very nice LLR, excellent 11-minute He's Gone -- takes its time -- followed by 11 minutes of drums and a very other oney 7-minute space -- certainly near start -- that of course then segues into a quick, 5-minute other one heater. Then comes poor Peter. Crowd notably reacts to this one: “one more day I find myself alive....” I think Jerry’s ballads got better with age, sounding their best in this sustained period from '87 on. No question, he grew into these songs . Good Bobby duo of grateful blues to close out chi night 2. Brent going for it on Around and Around solo. Crowd loving screechy Bobby. And I always love Baby Blue encore.
